Disney XD keeps Kickin’ It

US kids’ cablenet Disney XD has commissioned a second season of its martial arts-themed comedy series Kickin’ It.

The series debuted in June and has scored strong ratings across age groups, prompting the go-ahead for a new season, which will be produced in Hollywood in December ahead of a 2012 launch.

The live-action show comes from 3rd Rock From the Sun producer Jim O’Doherty and It’s a Laugh Productions. It follows a team of misfits from the Bobby Wasabi Martial Arts Academy that tries to overcome the odds.

It’s a Laugh is also behind another new Disney XD live-actioner, Lab Rats, which comes from Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore (That ’70s Show).
