Disney takes Sydney to the Max

Disney Channel has begun production on an intergenerational daughter/father comedy series created by writer, showrunner and executive producer Mark Reisman (Frasier).

Multi-camera series Sydney to the Max is scheduled to premiere in early 2019 on Disney Channel and hails from Disney-owned It’s A Laugh Productions.

Described as a heart-warming and sentimental comedy, the show centres on the experiences of sociable, goodhearted middle-schooler Sydney and her protective, doting, sometimes clueless single dad as they navigate the challenges of growing up.

The show is set during two timeframes, with flashbacks showing the young version of the dad and his best friend in the 1990s. The scenes parallel many of the predicaments Sydney and her best friend get themselves into.

“By existing in two distinct eras, it highlights how the smallest experiences of childhood have the biggest impact on who we become, and how every generation, despite its unique challenges, is filled with the universal truth that kids will always face the same joys, fears and excitement as their parents did,” said Jonas Agin, VP, original series at Disney Channels.
