Disney shells out for Boyster

The Walt Disney Company has picked up a French cartoon about a boy who is half oyster, half human for its channels around the world.

Boyster (52×13′), which premiered on Disney XD in the US last summer, will now air with the Mouse House in Japan, South-East Asia and Latin America following a deal between Disney and distributor Superights.

The comedy toon is produced by French studio Je Suis Bien Content in association with The Walt Disney Company in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and pubcaster France Télévisions.

It follows an 11-year-old kid who has the ability to understand whale song and makes pearls by eating blackboard chalk, but must keep these talents secret as he tries to lead a normal life.

Paris-based Superights, the sales arm of French production company Superprod, is managed by Morgann Favennec, the former head of children’s programming at French broadcaster M6.
