Disney+ revives classic Blind Date and shadows the Rooneys for UK unscripted slate

Jamie & Sophie: Raising Chelsea follows the couple into parenthood

US streaming giant Disney+ is reviving classic dating format Blind Date as part of a UK unscripted slate that also includes an observational documentary following Wayne and Coleen Rooney.

Blind Date, hosted by Cilla Black, was a staple of ITV’s Saturday night primetime line-up from 1985 to 2003, and the show had a brief revival on rival terrestrial Channel 5 from 2017 to 2019.

The format sees three potential partners, hidden behind a wall, being asked questions by a suitor who must then pick which one to fly off on a foreign holiday with based on their answers.

The 10×45’ reboot is executive produced by Matthew Worthy and Kieran Doherty for Sony Pictures Television-backed Stellify Media and Graham Stuart for SO TV, part of ITV Studios.

The slate also includes a new access series working titled The Rooneys, produced by Lorton Entertainment and Blast Films.

The 10×40’ obs doc will feature the couple, along with their family and friends, as they step into a new chapter of their lives. The series will follows Coleen as she embarks on new entrepreneurial endeavours while footballer Wayne swaps training for the school run.

The series is executive produced by Julian Bird, Paul Stretford and Ashley Smith for Lorton Entertainment, and Danny Horan and Tanya Winston for Blast Films.

Finally, Jamie & Sophie: Raising Chelsea (working title) features Made in Chelsea stars Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo, as the reality stars embrace parenthood. The series is produced by Dorothy St Pictures in association with Jampot Productions.

All three series were commissioned by Sean Doyle, exec director of unscripted for Disney+.
