Deal or No Deal returning in Germany as format continues revival journey

The UK version of Deal or No Deal

ProSiebenSat.1 Media’s Sat.1 is bringing Deal or No Deal back to German TV screens with Banijay Productions Germany, marking the latest revival of the classic gameshow format.

Production on the reboot will begin in Cologne from September 14 and the show is due to air next year, with Jörg Pilawa as host.

Deal or No Deal previously aired on Sat.1 between 2004 and 2008 before being briefly brought back in 2014.

The Banijay Entertainment format launched in 2002 in the Netherlands before being adapted in the UK for Channel 4 in 2005. Banijay Rights distributes the show globally.

In the show, contestants choose between sealed briefcases containing varying sums of money while negotiating with the mysterious Banker and playing for a cash prize.

The brand has undergone something of a revival recently and is currently being produced in 13 territories, with recent reboots in South Africa, the UK, Mexico, Sweden, Argentina, the Philippines and Turkey.
