Dating format Wingman takes flight as Fremantle picks up global distribution rights

Wingman’s first season is streaming on MeWatch and YouTube

MIPCOM: Fremantle has bagged the rights to represent Singapore-created dating format Wingman internationally, on behalf of its owners Mediacorp and Beach House Pictures (BHP).

Fremantle will market, license and produce the format across most international markets. Singapore-based broadcaster Mediacorp will continue to manage Wingman in its own territory and selected Asian markets. Fremantle is introducing the format to buyers at Mipcom this week.

In Wingman, singles hand their dating choices to their closest friends, who act as their “wingmen,” with friendship, loyalty and attraction put to the test as the search for love unfolds.

The format began life at Mediacorp’s Creatives Assembly Unscripted Formats Pitch in 2023. Mediacorp and BHP then co-developed it, and season one is now available on Mediacorp’s streaming service MeWatch and the Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube channel.

Mediacorp originated and commissioned the format and is its majority owner. BHP, a Singapore-based Fremantle company, is co-owner and produced season one.

Mediacorp said the deal advances its push to develop original Singapore IP with export potential.

Angeline Poh, chief customer and corporate development officer at Mediacorp, said: “Through such partnerships, we create meaningful pathways for Singapore creativity to reach new markets and audiences.”

Ben Crompton, head of global entertainment at Fremantle, added: “It’s launched well for Mediacorp – their most-viewed dating format of the year – and we think it has real international potential.”
