Dandelooo expands into teen and YA animation with new division

‘Raucous’ 2D animated comedy Apocalypse Mojito

French animation production and distribution company Dandelooo has launched a new division dedicated to animated projects for teenagers and young adults (YA).

The new arm will focus on and seek out “distinctive, creator-led projects with fresh comedy and strong storylines,” according to the company, which said it decided to expand into the teen and YA space following the success of prodco Everybody on Deck’s adult animated sitcom Lastman, which Dandelooo distributes.

The division launches with two original comedy series: Apocalypse Mojito and Armageddon Pizza.

Produced by Passion Paris, which pitched it at Cartoon Forum in 2023, Apocalypse Mojito (10×7’) is described as a “raucous, irreverent and witty” 2D animated comedy that “takes a satirical look at the future, holding up a mirror to the world we live in today.”

Now complete and ready for delivery, the series follows two friends who travel the world with their mobile guinguette – a typically French open-air café and dance floor – in the year 2100, when civilisation has collapsed and climate change has wreaked havoc. Somehow, humanity still hasn’t learnt its lesson and the series uses its dystopian future to poke fun at the absurdity of human behaviour.

Je Suis Bien Content’s zombie series Armageddon Pizza

Currently in production, Armageddon Pizza is a 26×13’ zombie series produced by French animation studio Je Suis Bien Content.

Set in an “entirely fictional yet strangely familiar world,” the series centres on three brave minimum-wage delivery drivers who, on their DIY scooters, deliver pizza to the surviving population who are confined to their homes in the ruins of Paris but longing for comfort food and entertainment.

“Following the success of Lastman, my colleagues Jean-Baptiste Wéry, Gennarino Romano and I have been looking for the next great 12-plus animated series,” said Dandelooo partner and producer Emmanuèle Pétry.

“We are thrilled to kick off this new department with two absurd comedies that tackle eco-anxiety in a fun way and are delighted to be working with the very talented studios Je Suis Bien Content and Passion Paris.”
