CBC, RTÉ, VRT, Canal+ among int’l buyers turning to Irvine Welsh’s Crime

Irvine Welsh’s Crime is adapted from his novel of the same name

MIPTV: A raft of international buyers including Canada’s CBC, Ireland’s RTÉ, Belgium’s VRT and Holland’s NPO have acquired BritBox/ITVX original series Irvine Welsh’s Crime.

Season one (12×60’) of the British drama, which is produced by Buccaneer Media and Off Grid Film & TV and distributed internationally by Cineflix Rights, was also picked up by Polar+ and Canal+ in France, Hot and Yes in Israel, Magenta TV in Germany and Corus Entertainment in French-speaking Canada.

The show has also been sold to BritBox in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand by Cineflix, which announced the latest sales on day two of MipTV in Cannes.

Already commissioned for a second season, Irvine Welsh’s Crime follows detective Inspector Ray Lennox (played by Dougray Scott), a man engaged in his own disturbing battle while undertaking serious crime investigations in a city on the edge of the abyss.

Adapted by Welsh from his novel of the same name, the series also stars John Simm (Life on Mars, Grace), Joanna Vanderham (Warrior, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Angela Griffin (Harlots, White Lines), Ken Stott (The Dig, Fortitude), and Jamie Sives (Guilt, Too Close).
