Canuck outfit Buffalo Gal Pictures’ Jennifer Beasley to head new scripted sister company Fiasco Global

Canadian prodco Buffalo Gal Pictures (BGP) has announced the launch of scripted sister outfit Fiasco Global Media (FGM), to be headed by president Jennifer Beasley.

Jennifer Beasley

Beasley is the current VP of development at BGP, having joined the Winnipeg-based company in 2016. She is also the founder and president of Big Cheese Pictures.

A writer turned executive producer, Beasley’s TV and film credits include projects such as Less Than Kind, Cra$h & Burn, The Spencer Sisters, comedy Acting Good and the horror satire Rumours, starring Cate Blanchett.

BGP describe FGM as a new TV development company dedicated to “creating rich, character-driven stories rooted in the spirit of working-class communities and rural prairies.”

Beasley’s remit is to focus on characters and stories that immerse audiences in compelling worlds and create cultural touchstones.

She will work alongside FGM’s consulting head of US series development Burrad Marsh, whose has previously held executive roles at Alchemy, Shed Media, Outright Distribution and Amaze Film & TV, developing and producing series for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. He also consults for the Canadian Consulate on cross-border content initiatives.

FGM is currently developing a slate of scripted projects, including a rural workplace comedy series from writer Garry Campbell (North of North) and a police procedural from Hollis Ludlow-Carroll, creator of Wong & Winchester.

Beasley said: “We aim to make series that stick with audiences. Television narratives shouldn’t just reflect the lives we already live – they should offer windows into worlds where we can imagine something more.

“Our mission is simple: make the shows that captivate you now, and that you will revisit when your kids’ kids are discovering them. Relatable and endlessly rewatchable, we’re here to create the kind of TV that feels like home – wherever home may be.”

Marsh said: “At Fiasco, the aim is to launch series that don’t just entertain – they move in, rearrange the furniture and become part of your life.”

Phyllis Laing, president of BGP, said: “Marking Buffalo Gal’s 30th anniversary with Fiasco under Jennifer’s leadership will continue to highlight our ongoing commitment to discovering and empowering new voices.”
