C4 animates Terry Pratchett’s Snow Baby

The Abominable Snow Baby

The UK’s Channel 4 has commissioned a one-off animated adaptation of a Terry Pratchett story to air at Christmas this year.

The Abominable Snow Baby was originally published in late fantasy author Pratchett’s Christmas story collection Father Christmas’ Fake Beard. It is being adapted for TV by UK prodco Eagle Eye Drama, which was launched by Channel 4-owned Walter Presents in 2019.

Narritivia, the indie prodco Pratchett founded in 2012 before his death in 2015, is also producing the half-hour show. In the story, a quaint English town is thrown into chaos by the arrival of a 14-foot ‘abominable snow baby,’ but things change thanks to a local woman and her grandson.

The show will be directed by Massimo Fenati and exec produced by Tess Cuming. Eagle Eye founders Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino, who also created Walter Presents, are joint creative directors for the special, while Rob Wilkins is exec producer for Narritivia.

Channel 4 airs an animated Christmas one-off every year. Last year it showed the Quentin Blake animation Clown, which was also produced by Eagle Eye.
