Binocular starts production on Matt Charman crime action thriller Prisoners for Sky Studios

Prisoners, the Sky Studios action thriller created by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies, Treason) and produced by Binocular, has started production in Wales.

The six-part series stars Tahar Rahim (The Serpent, Un Prophète) and Izuka Hoyle (Boiling Point, Big Boys) and follows a principled young prison officer tasked with escorting a dangerous prisoner to court to testify against his elite crime syndicate.

The series is written and created by Charman, who also serves as showrunner, with Otto Bathurst (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, Peaky Blinders) directing and Haleema Mizra as deputy showrunner and writer. Some of the later episodes are directed by Pia Strietmann (Herrhausen – The Banker and The Bomb).

The project counts Charman, Foz Allan, Bathurst and Sky Studios’ Adrian Sturges among its executive producers.

Prisoners is produced for Sky in the UK and Ireland, with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handling international sales.

In addition to Rahim and Hoyle, the cast includes Eddie Marsan (Back to Black, The Thief, His Wife & the Canoe), Catherine McCormack (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth), Leonie Benesch (September 5) and Finn Bennett (Black Doves).
