BBC Studios ANZ agrees content deal with HBO Max down under

Sam Campbell’s Make That Movie

BBC Studios ANZ has secured a deal to supply streamer HBO Max in Australia with UK comedy and drama titles.

The distribution deal features pre-sales and territory premieres for new original six-part series Make That Movie, produced by the UK’s Blink Industries and created by Australian performer Sam Campbell, who also stars alongside Australian comedian Aaron Chen. The series follows a hot-shot director who scours the UK for the next big idea for a feature film.

Also on the slate is the latest series in the Alan Partridge franchise, How Are You? It’s Alan (Partridge). It sees Steve Coogan’s Patridge returning to Norwich after a year working in Saudi Arabia. The new comedy is complemented by a back catalogue of existing Alan Partridge titles including I’m Alan Patridge and Alan Partridge’s Mid-Morning Matters.

The deal will also encompass territory premiere rights for second series of sitcoms Alma’s Not Normal and Cheaters, in addition to two-part drama Brian & Maggie, which also stars Coogan.

BBC Studios ANZ director of content partnerships and sales Deborah Tod said: The local appetite for high-end British content is only getting stronger here in Australia, so we are thrilled to have established this package with HBO Max as an avenue to deliver this sought-after storytelling to their growing audience.

“This exciting slate of territory premiere titles and pre-sales, from the return of fan favourites to fresh new series, is testament to the power of strong, local collaborations, and we’re proud that this distinctive, talked-about content has found its home on HBO Max.”
