BBC Children’s and ZDF Studios to investigate more Lady Grace Mysteries

The Lady Grace Mysteries launched on CBBC and iPlayer in April

BBC Children’s and Education in the UK and Germany’s ZDF Studios have greenlit a second season of live-action tween series The Lady Grace Mysteries.

Produced by French prodco Cottonwood Media and Coolabi Productions, season one of The Lady Grace Mysteries premiered in April on CBBC and iPlayer. Filming on the 13×24’ second season will begin in the UK and Belgium in July.

Based on the detective fiction novels of the same name, published by Coolabi’s Working Partners, The Lady Grace Mysteries centres on a teenage girl who works as a private spy for Queen Elizabeth I.

In season two, she comes face to face with Mary Queen of Scots during a dangerous undercover mission to rescue Sir Francis Drake and is shocked to realise this feared enemy is just a teenager like her.

The writing team for season two is led by Anna McCleery (Free Rein, A Kind of Spark), with Vicki Lutas (Free Rein) and Karissa Hamilton-Bannis (Hollyoaks). The new writers for S2 are Tasha Dhanraj (Theodosia), Scott Payne (A Kind of Spark), Thabo Mhlatshwa (Hollyoaks) and Rebecca Ramsden (Shakespeare & Hathaway).

Director Louise Ní Fhiannachta (Flatmates, Silverpoint) is returning, joined by director Jordan Hogg (Brassic, Casualty).

Cottonwood’s parent company Federation Kids & Family and ZDF Studios are handling worldwide sales.
