BBC agrees deal with Cake for six series of Total Drama tween franchise

Canadian animated comedy TV series Total Drama Island

UK pubcaster the BBC has agreed a deal with London-based producer and distributor Cake for six series of animated tween franchise Total Drama.

The BBC has joined Warner Bros Discovery as co-commissioner of two new seasons of Total Drama Island (26×22’), currently in production and set to launch on CBBC and iPlayer in the UK and on Cartoon Network and HBO Max in the US.

The agreement also includes 182 episodes of library content, including spin-off Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race, and three seasons of Total Drama’s younger-skewing prequel, Total Dramarama.

Created by Tom McGillis and Jennifer Pertsch, Total Drama is produced by Canadian prodco Fresh TV and distributed internationally by Cake.

First premiering on Teletoon in 2007, the franchise is both a homage to and satire of reality television competition shows, with each series and season revolving around a group of teenagers competing in fictional competitions similar to reality shows like Survivor.
