Banijay Rights shakes up sales

Banijay Rights has set up a new sales structure in Latin America, Canada and German-speaking territories, under the leadership of CEO Cathy Payne.

In Latin America, Michelle Wasserman will serve as senior VP, Lat Am, Brazil and US Hispanic, with her remit expanded to include finished tape sales alongside formats.

Wasserman has sold MasterChef into 13 countries across the region and My Name Is into 14, alongside managing over 40 format productions each year.

Joining her in the Miami office is a new hire, Ivania Zamora, who takes up the role of VP for Lat Am, having previously had a stint with Endemol Shine International, prior to its merger with Banijay last year.

Meanwhile, Veronique Verges is joining the EMEA team as senior VP for German-speaking territories plus Poland and Hungary, having handled Lat Am and US Hispanic finished tape sales for 10 years.

Now based in London, Verges will report to Tim Mutimer executive VP for EMEA. Before leaving her role in Latin America last month, Verges closed several package deals totalling over 1,600 hours with Amazon, WarnerMedia and Discovery.

Elsewhere, former Insight Productions exec Jane Rimer has been confirmed as senior VP in Canada. Since joining late last year, Rimer has completed deals including selling the first iteration of Celebrity Big Brother into French Canada.

Both Rimer and Wasserman report to Matt Creasey, executive VP sales, global acquisitions and coproductions, excluding EMEA.

The European production and distribution giant unveiled the structure of its distribution team following its US$2.2bn buyout of Endemol Shine last year, with former Endemol Shine International boss Payne overseeing the amalgamation of the two massive distribution arms.

Banijay Rights represents a multi-genre portfolio of over 95,000 hours of programming, including titles from Banijay’s 120-plus in-house labels, and a number of third-party producers, spanning drama, comedy, entertainment, factual, reality, family, formats and theatrical.

Its properties include Survivor, Big Brother, MasterChef, Temptation Island, Grantchester, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Deal or No Deal, Versailles, Biggest Loser, Home & Away, Money Drop, Mr Bean and Black Mirror.
