Banijay Germany unveils microdrama format starring local content creators

Imke Runde is spearheading the project

SERIES MANIA: Banijay Productions Germany has produced its first microdrama as it expands into development of the format.

The as-yet-untitled project comprises 28 episodes and features a cast of eight well-known German creators with a combined reach of more than 33 million followers.

The debut project is led by executive producer Imke Runde, whose scripted experience includes Verklag mich doch! (Vox), Richterin Barbara Salesch (Sat.1), Staatsanwalt Posch ermittelt (RTL), Das Strafgericht (RTL), Typisch Pubertät! (RTL), Hilf mir doch! (Vox) and Patchwork Family (Sat.1).

Katrin Stefanović, MD of Banijay Productions Germany, said: “Through platforms and mobile usage, narrative forms and viewing habits are shifting rapidly. Microdramas offer an exciting space to experiment with new formats and distribution models.

“As a forward-facing company, we feel it’s important to shape trends. And by combining our expertise with Imke’s, we have created a debut to demonstrate how impactful creator-led, mobile-first storytelling can be.”

Banijay Productions Germany’s move aligns with wider group expansion into the microdrama space. In the Americas, Endemol Shine Brasil and A Fábrica have partnered to create a slate of vertical microdramas, while earlier this week, Banijay Finland and YLE announced they are working on a vertical shortform mockumentary, and Banijay Iberia is also developing three projects in the space.
