Australia’s ABC acquires CBeebies preschool show Monster Makes

Monster Makes

Australian public-service broadcaster the ABC has acquired UK kids’ network CBeebies’ preschool show Monster Makes.

Produced by Terrific Television for CBeebies, the BBC’s preschool brand, Monster Makes is a craft series that blends CGI, 2D animation and live action, inspiring children to transform everyday recycled materials into brilliant ‘Makes’ they can recreate at home.

The ABC has acquired the linear free-to-air and free VoD rights to the series for ABC Kids and streamer ABC iview, where it will launch next week, from London-based distributor 8 Lions Entertainment.

The deal also includes a library of Australia-themed compilations produced on a digital-first pipeline for the official Monster Makes YouTube channel, which 8 Lions launched and manages.

8 Lions said the deal “underscores a broader strategy of leveraging YouTube data to inform distribution strategy and shape future content output.”

CEO Jiella Esmat added: “We’re thrilled to partner with Terrific Television and the ABC to bring Monster Makes to Australian audiences, demonstrating what’s possible when digital and broadcast coexist in a single strategy, and data influences the production pipeline.”
