At Home with the Furys producer Optomen to make Netflix docufilm about gypsy weddings

Fly-on-the-wall reality show At Home With the Furys

Global streamer Netflix has greenlit a feature-length documentary following young couples from the UK’s gypsy and traveller community as they prepare for their weddings.

Produced by Banijay-owned factual specialist Optomen (Bad Boyfriends), My Big Day (working title) will show how social media is pushing the spectacle of traveller weddings to new heights.

It explores the couples’ hopes and dreams as they battle prejudices in the build-up to their ceremony.

Optomen has experience of working closely with traveller communities while producing Netflix reality show At Home with the Furys, which features heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, known as the Gypsy King.

Jonny Ashton (Educating Yorkshire) is director, with Optomen joint CEOs Nick Hornby and Tina Flintoff as creative directors.

The subject of gypsy weddings has previously inspired factual series such as Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, which ran on UK broadcaster Channel 4 between 2010 and 2015.
