Arte France partners with Movistar Plus+ on Spanish coup d’état drama series

Anatomía de un instante (Anatomy of a Moment)

SERIES MANIA: French cultural channel Arte France has partnered with Spanish broadcaster Movistar Plus+ for the series Anatomía de un instante (Anatomy of a Moment), a production by DLO Producciones (Banijay Iberia) that began filming in January of this year.

The announcement was made this Thursday at Series Mania in Lille.

Through the partnership, Arte France will premiere the series in all territories where it operates.

Based on the book of the same name by Spanish writer Javier Cercas, Anatomy of a Moment narrates the events that occurred during the failed 1981 coup d’état in Spain, popularly known as 23-F.

The series is directed by Alberto Rodríguez and produced by José Manuel Lorenzo, with scripts by Rafael Cobos, Fran Araújo, and Alberto Rodríguez. It will star Álvaro Morte, Manolo Solo, and Eduard Fernández.

The agreement expands the relationship between Movistar Plus+ and Arte, which announced at last year’s Series Mania a partnership to coproduce the series Los años nuevos, the third collaboration between Movistar Plus+ and Spanish screenwriter and director Rodrigo Sorogoyen (As bestas, Antidisturbios).

In addition, during 2024, Arte France acquired the rights for its territories to the series Messiah and Querer.

“I want to thank Arte France, Alexandre Piel, and their team for their unique vision of the content. At Movistar Plus+, we feel very fortunate to have them as partners on such a special project. We are proud of the opportunity to bring European audiences closer to such a pivotal moment in Spanish history: the 1981 coup d’état,” said Domingo Corral, content director of Movistar Plus+.

“In Anatomy of a Moment, we’ll have the opportunity to work once again with Arte France and also with a director of the calibre of Alberto Rodríguez. It will be an exceptional series,” he added.

Piel, deputy head of drama at Arte France, said: “We are very proud to renew our collaboration with Movistar Plus+ through this project. It seemed essential to us to participate in this reconstruction of the moment when the young Spanish democracy was on the verge of plunging into a dark period.”

The series is currently being filmed in various locations throughout Madrid.

It will be distributed internationally by Movistar Plus+ International.
