AMC Networks rides into Spain with Western-themed channel

February’s focus will be on John Wayne westerns

AMC Networks has added to its portfolio of thematic pay TV brands in Spain with the launch a new channel dedicated entirely to the Western genre.

Set to debut on February 10, AMC Western is positioned as a definitive destination for fans of Western cinema, spanning classic Hollywood titles, European Westerns and contemporary reinterpretations of the genre.

The channel’s programming will combine landmark works from the golden age of Hollywood, with later genre evolutions such as Quentin Tarintino’s The Hateful Eight.

It will feature the work of directors such as John Ford, Sergio Leone, Henry Hathaway, Howard Hawks, Sam Peckinpah and John Sturges, alongside iconic stars including John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Henry Fonda, Charlton Heston, Robert Redford, Joan Crawford and Paul Newman.

AMC Western will be available on platforms including Vodafone, Orange, Jazztel, Yoigo, Euskaltel, DIGI, MásMóvil, R, Avatel, Telecable, Pepephone, LOWI, PTV Telecom, Cable Local and Tivify, as well as via Amazon’s Prime Video through AMC Channels.

AMC Western will launch with a John Ford tribute on its opening day, followed by themed weekend cycles and a recurring monthly strand spotlighting major figures of the genre.

February’s focus will be on John Wayne, featuring films from across his career, including True Grit, El Dorado and The Shootist, his final screen appearance.

Dani Pérez, VP of distribution and programming for fiction, factual and documentary brands at AMC Networks International Iberia & Latin America, said the channel would combine celebrated classics with lesser-known titles.

“AMC Western allows us to revisit undisputed masterpieces, recover unjustly forgotten films and introduce audiences to works that deepen their understanding of the genre,” he said.
