Amazon scales High Castle

US streamer Amazon has greenlit a full season of a drama based on a bestselling 1961 novel by Philip K Dick, with Ridley Scott on board as an executive producer.

The Man in the High Castle, which explores an alternative reality in which Nazi Germany and Japan won the Second World War and occupied the US, was Amazon Studios’ most watched show in its latest pilot season.

Amazon has now picked up a full run of the series, which was developed and coproduced by Headline Pictures, the first European indie to secure a commission for a drama series from the studio.

It will premiere exclusively for Amazon Prime Instant members in the US, UK and Germany in 2015 or 2016.

The project, originally set up as a four-hour miniseries at Syfy last year, was written by Big Light Productions’ Frank Spotnitz. He produces along with Stewart Mackinnon and Christian Baute (Headline Pictures); Ridley Scott; David Zucker and Jordan Sheehan (Scott Free); and Kalen Egan, Isa Dick Hackett and Christopher Tricarico (Electric Shepherd Productions).

Amazon has also picked up full seasons of hour-long dark comedy Mad Dogs, docuseries The New Yorker Presents and kids’ shows Just Add Magic and The Stinky & Dirty Show.
