Amazon MGM Studios taps Netflix, Bravo alum Jenn Levy to lead unscripted

Former Netflix, Bravo and 32 Flavors executive Jenn Levy has been named head of unscripted and documentary television at Amazon MGM Studios.

In her new LA-based role she will have oversight of all Amazon MGM Studios’ unscripted output, with the company’s non-scripted teams, including Amazon MGM Unscripted, MGM Alternative, Big Fish Entertainment and Evolution Media, all reporting to her.

The move comes two years after Levy left her position as VP of non-fiction at Netflix after seven years with the streaming service.

In joining Amazon, she reunites with Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s former scripted series head for the US and Canada, who joined Amazon MGM Studios as head of global television in September after leaving Netflix over the summer.

Levy will report to Friedlander, who revealed her appointment in an internal memo. He noted that Levy’s remit will include “both leadership of our development and production for Prime Video, as well as the shepherding and selling of projects to third parties.” She begins the role on January 20.

Levy’s arrival comes three months after Lauren Anderson, who formerly oversaw Amazon’s unscripted, moved into a new part of the company. It is also six weeks after it was revealed that Barry Poznick, the general manager of unscripted TV at Amazon MGM Studios, was stepping down from the role and transitioning to a three-year first-look producer deal.

Since leaving Netflix, Levy has served as president of Alex Baskin’s LA-based production company 32 Flavors for the past 18 months. Earlier in her career, she spent nine years at NBCUniversal-owned cable channel Bravo, climbing to senior VP of current production. Throughout her career, she has worked on high-profile unscripted franchises such as Love is Blind, The Real Housewives, Vanderpump Rules, Queer Eye, Top Chef and Below Deck.

“Having a single threaded leader for this vital piece of our business is crucial – and bringing on someone of Jenn’s calibre to fill the job makes our future that much brighter,” said Friedlander.
