A+E Networks entertainment format Top Dog renewed by RTL Germany

Top Dog first aired on A&E in the US

German broadcaster RTL has commissioned a second season of light-entertainment competition format Top Dog, which is distributed by A+E Networks Global Content Sales.

In the show, teams of highly skilled dogs and their owners compete against each other, testing the canines’ speed, agility and teamwork in a series of fun challenges against the clock.

The German version launched last year and is produced by the broadcaster’s production arm RTL Studios. It airs locally under the title Der Beste Hund Deutschlands and will return with seven two-hour long episodes, including a celebrity special.

Created by Big Fish Entertainment, Top Dog first aired on A&E in the US as America’s Top Dog. It returned for a third season on A&E in September last year, hosted by veteran studio and sports broadcaster Curt Menefee.

RTL’s Top Dog joins international versions of other A+E shows secured by the company’s growing formats division, such as Alone, Forged in Fire, The UnXplained and The Rap Game.

Robyn Hurd, VP of content sales for EMEA at A+E Networks, said: “A+E Networks has a history of success creating regionally replicable formats that transcend cultures and borders, and Top Dog has proven itself as a primetime family entertainment show with fun and heart that celebrates everything that makes dogs so special and beloved across the globe.”
