MTV Studios gets Undressed again

Over 200 episodes of Undressed aired on MTV up until 2002

Viacom-owned MTV’s fledgling studio arm is rebooting another of its library formats with the return of relationship series Undressed.

The series, more than 200 episodes of which aired on MTV between 1999 and 2002, explores the complicated dynamics of young-adult relationships.

The show’s creator and two-time Oscar-nominated director Roland Joffé will return to executive produce the new episodes of the series, which is currently in development.

The original was praised for being one of the only shows at the time to feature gay, lesbian and bisexual characters and same-sex relationships. It is also credited with helping to launch the careers of hundreds of young actors and behind-the-scenes talent.

These include Christina Hendricks, Jason Ritter, Max Greenfield, Brandon Routh and Chad Michael Murray, as well as Damon Lindelof (Lost), Lizzy Weiss (Switched at Birth, Blue Crush) and Steven S DeKnight (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

“Undressed was ahead of its time and we’re looking forward to developing the series for a whole new generation,” said Pamela Post, head of scripted programming for MTV Studios, MTV, VH1 and Logo. “Much has changed in the dating/relationship world since the series first premiered and we’re excited to showcase how both have evolved.”

MTV Studios is also in the process of rebooting The Real World for Facebook Watch and a host of other youth-skewing IP from its library for SVoD and linear distribution platforms.
