Komixx, Gotham join forces

The US arm of UK animation prodco Komixx Entertainment has launched a joint venture in Los Angeles and has a live-action sci-fi project in the works.

KG Entertainment (KGE) will see Komixx and LA-based management and production company Gotham Group develop and coproduce multi-platform and transmedia brands.

The new partnership will “seek to take advantage” of both the UK film tax credit and the tax credits for high-end TV production and animation.

The first project in the works is a live-action series based on the Monster Republic sci-fi novels, described by their publisher Random House Children’s Publishers (RHCP) as “X-Men meet Terminator.”

Komixx has a partnership with RHCP in the UK through Random House Children’s Screen Entertainment (RHCSE).

The JV won’t be the first time Gotham has partnered with a UK studio with a background in kids’ TV. In 2006, Gotham aligned with Aardman Animation on a US version of the Creature Comforts series, which aired on CBS and Animal Planet.

Komixx opened its first US office last year. It is best known as the coproducer of children’s cartoon Toby’s Travelling Circus, which airs on Channel 5 in the UK, in Australia and across Europe.
