ESG pulls off Heist in Nordics

A second season of The Heist is set for Sky1

Endemol Shine Group (ESG) has secured the first Nordic local production deal for UK reality thriller format The Heist.

Sweden’s SVT has bagged the format, which will be known locally as Tjuv Och Polis. Meter Television, part of Endemol Shine Nordics, will adapt it from the original version that aired on UK satcaster Sky1.

Meter has a track record of adapting international formats for Sweden, having produced local versions of MasterChef, Big Brother, The Biggest Loser, Last Chef Standing and Eternal Glory.

The Heist sees ordinary citizens plan and commit a heist and attempt to evade a team of expert detectives in order to pocket a sum of cash. The Swedish version will air later this year, and follows a local production deal in the Netherlands signed last year.

“The Heist is a high-octane and high-stakes format that grips viewers from the get-go, blending a thrilling game of cat and mouse with the best bit of any crime drama – the suspect interrogation,” said Lisa Perrin, CEO of Creative Networks at ESG.

The Heist was created by Shine TV, part of Endemol Shine UK, the prodco behind Hunted and The Island. The show is set to return for a second series on Sky 1 in 2020, following a successful run earlier this year.
