Disney+ to carry C4 content in latest broadcaster-streamer collaboration

The Walt Disney Company and Channel 4 (C4) have announced a landmark agreement to bring content from the UK public service broadcaster to global streamer Disney+ from early 2027.

Multiple C4 shows will be made available on-demand each year on the SVoD platform at the same time as their release on the broadcaster.

The C4 programming covered includes psychological thriller Maya, starring Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), comedy Stepping Up and reality format Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

From next year, Disney+ subscribers will be able to watch C4’s linear HD channel, plus hundreds of hours of its scripted and unscripted content through its on-demand catalogue, at no extra cost.

The collaboration with C4 is “one of the most significant” broadcaster partnerships that Disney has announced globally so far, the company said. It offers greater international reach for the UK broadcaster’s programming and more choice for Disney+ subscribers.

The alliance is an example of the trend for so-called ‘frenemy deals’ between broadcasters and streamers. In June 2025, Netflix and French broadcaster TF1 partnered to allow the streamer’s subscribers in France to access TF1’s content from this summer.

Priya Dogra, chief executive at C4, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Disney+ to give audiences even more ways to discover and enjoy Channel 4’s brilliant shows.

“Channel 4 is home to some of the UK and Ireland’s most talked about and trusted programming, and this new service will help those shows reach viewers in new places. This exciting step shows how collaboration between broadcasters and streamers can create more choice and value for audiences.”

Adam Smith, chairman, direct-to-consumer at Disney Entertainment, said: “Local broadcaster partnerships are very important as we build our content libraries and serve fans around the world.

“Channel 4 has created shows with strong appeal to audiences in the UK and Ireland, and we’re excited to bring some of those favourites to Disney+. This agreement is the latest example of our global strategy pairing high-quality local programming and cultural relevance with a complementary audience and more personalised streaming experience on Disney+.”

In related news, C4 has commissioned an observational documentary series following tennis star Andy Murray and his wife Kim as they undertake a major overhaul of their luxury Scottish hotel, Cromlix

Our Scottish Hotel (3×60’) is produced by Rogan Scotland and the commissioning editor is Emily Shields. BBC Studios will manage global sales.
