Mattel Studios taps Mario Giampaolo as head of global content distribution

Mario Giampaolo

Mattel Studios, the content arm of toy giant Mattel, has named Samsung TV Plus and Sony alum Mario Giampaolo as global head of content distribution.

Based at Mattel’s El Segundo headquarters, Giampaolo will oversee global strategy, deal-making and distribution of content across TV and digital platforms including SVoD, AVoD, free ad-supported streaming television, linear and other platforms.

He will lead the content distribution teams across the US, UK, Italy and Hong Kong, reporting to president and chief content officer Robbie Brenner.

Giampaolo joins after most recently working at Samsung TV Plus, where he led multi-territory content partnerships and strategy. He previously held senior roles at Sony Pictures Television and The Roku Channel, working across content licensing, acquisitions, partnerships and co-productions. For the past three years, he has also run his own advisory company, Perennial Content.

He will attend MIPCOM in Cannes with Mattel Studios’ global content distribution team this month.

The appointment comes after major Mattel-related news broke earlier this week, with Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch taking the helm as Ynon Kreiz moves to become co-CEO at the merged Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros Discovery.
