Zombie Nation reaches Space

Canadian cablenet Space has acquired a new zombie drama produced by The Asylum, the US prodco behind the cult thriller Sharknado.

Action horror series Z Nation (13×60′) will air on Space this fall and is set three years after a mysterious zombie virus has gutted the US.

It follows a team of everyday heroes tasked with transporting the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood.

The Asylum is set to begin production on Z Nation this summer. It is currently in production on Sharknado 2: The Second One, the sequel to the TV movie that sparked a frenzy of Twitter activity when it aired last year.

The Asylum’s previous credits also include Zombie Apocalypse, Nazis at the Centre of the Earth and Titanic II.

“Space is always aiming to deliver the most exciting, and out-of-the-box genre programming, and Z Nation fits right in,” said Catherine MacLeod, senior VP, specialty channels and Bell Media Production.

The deal was completed by David L Garber, CEO, Lantern Lane Entertainment on behalf of The Asylum, and Brook Peters, director of programming, entertainment specialty, Bell Media.
