YouTube enters Man’s World

YouTube has ordered a pilot of a half-hour comedy written by Theresa Rebeck (Smash) and produced by Assembly Entertainment in association with ITV Studios America.

It’s a Man’s World (working title) follows a successful video game design executive who is the sole breadwinner for her family and who is used to dodging the landmines that come with being a woman in a male-dominated field.

However, when she gets fired without explanation and finds that she’s being blacklisted by everyone in her industry, she decides to dress as a man to get a new job and continue supporting her family.

The pilot will be executive produced by Assembly Entertainment CEO Christina Wayne (I’m Dying Up Here) and Rebeck. Jill Greenberg is the co-executive producer.

The original script was written by Heidi Schreck (Billions). Production will begin this fall.

YouTube Premium, the Google-owned platform’s subscription service that offers access to YouTube original series and movies, is currently available in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
