Weather Channel adds CNN exec

US cablenet The Weather Channel has hired an executive producer from CNN as its senior VP of live programming.

Nora Zimmett will be responsible for all aspects of the network’s 16 hours of daily live programming, including flagship morning show AMHQ, and will be based at its Atlanta headquarters from mid-September.

Zimmett will also be responsible for the overall editorial direction of the network and will work closely with the teams creating editorial content for the channel’s digital platforms, including its website.

The exec arrives from CNN where mostly recently she served as co-creator and executive producer of both the morning show New Day Weekend and talk show Smerconish.

Zimmett also held senior producer and producer roles at Bloomberg Television and Fox News Channel prior to joining CNN in 2012.
