USA Network has pushed back the premiere of its upcoming drama series about an expert marksman following last week’s attack in Dallas.

The series, a TV adaptation of the 2007 movie of the same name, stars Ryan Phillippe as a US Army-trained sniper who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president.

Five police officers were shot dead and seven more were wounded in Dallas, Texas, last week, after a gunman opened fire during a peaceful protest over the fatal police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Based on Stephen Hunter’s novel Point of Impact, the small-screen adaptation is from Paramount TV, which made the film, and Universal Cable Productions.

The first episode had been due to air on in the US on July 19 but the series will instead begin a week later.

“In light of recent tragic events and out of respect for the victims, their families and our viewers, we have decided to postpone the premiere date for the upcoming USA Network series Shooter to July 26,” the network said.
