Tulipop jumps from YouTube to TV

Tulipop began as a design brand in 2010

Icelandic public broadcaster RUV has acquired a series of animated shorts based on a local design brand that has a growing presence on YouTube.

The Tulipop shorts (10×2’30”) have been dubbed in Icelandic having originally launched on YouTube as a coproduction between the brand owner and DHX-owned digital firm WildBrain.

The latter also manages the Tulipop YouTube channel and will coproduce another 10 shorts with Tobi Wilson and Brydie Lee-Kennedy (The Amazing World of Gumball) as script writers.

The YouTube channel launched four months ago and has so far attracted one million views, according to the brand owner, which is also called Tulipop.

Created by Icelandic illustrator Signy Kolbeinsdottir and marketing expert Helga Arnadottir, Tulipop first appeared as a design brand in 2010 and has grown to cover a range of products including toys, collectables, puzzles, apparel and other merchandise.

A 52×11′ series is in development and follows characters including an adventurous and hyperactive mushroom girl and a furry, smelly forest creature who looks scary but has a gentle soul.
