Sky takes Attenborough into air

UK satcaster Sky has commissioned a three-part, 3D miniseries in which Sir David Attenborough explores the evolution of flight.

Conquest of the Skies 3D (3×60′) will see Attenborough travel to China, Italy, Scotland, Ecuador and Borneo to seek out gliding reptiles, parachuting mammals and acrobatic insects.

The series is in production now for broadcast on Sky 3D and in 2D on Sky 1 HD this Christmas.

The show, which will be written and presented by the multi-award winning natural history broadcaster, marks his seventh 3D project for Sky following Flying Monsters and The Secret Life of Plants among others.

It is once again being produced by Colossus Productions, the 3D-focused joint-venture prodco between Sky and London-based indie Atlantic Productions.

Anthony Geffen, CEO of Colossus, said the producers would use macro systems and super high-speed cameras to tell the story of animal flight in a way that has never been seen before.
