Sat.1, TVE check into Hotel Römantiek

Broadcasters in Germany and Spain have ordered local versions of a dating format featuring senior citizens.

Hotel Römantiek has been extended into a second season by Belgium’s Vier

Hotel Römantiek launched on Belgian network Vier in February and has already been extended into a second season. It was originally produced by Switzerland’s Woestijnvis and is sold globally by Belgian distributor The New Flemish Primitives (TNFP).

In Germany, the series will be produced by SEO Entertainment for Sat.1, while in Spain, Banijay owned-DLO Producciones will produce for public broadcaster TVE.

Rights have also been granted across Europe, the US and the UK, although details are being kept under wraps.

Siobhan Crawford, TNFP’s head of sales, said the deals with both public and commercial broadcasters for the “heart-warming Belgian format” proved its wide appeal.

Hotel Römantiek sees a group of seniors getting to know each other while participating in different activities, with one couple taken to a cabin in the woods for a romantic dinner each night. The winning couple then gets to spend a further break to get to know each other.
