Russian net adds French political thriller

Section Zéro will air on Russia’s Channel One

A broadcaster in Russia has acquired the futuristic political drama Section Zéro, created by renowned director and screenwriter Olivier Marchal.

Channel One will air the eight-part sci-fi thriller in August following a deal with distributor StudioCanal.

The original production from French pay TV broadcaster Canal+ is produced by EuropaCorp Television, Bad Company and Umedia.

Set in a near future when multinational corporations are Europe’s new leaders, it follows an idealistic law enforcement officer who teams up with an old cop to battle violent militias.

Peter Shepin, head of sales at Channel One, said: “We’re happy to add some Olivier Marchal style and atmosphere to the late-night prime slot, which exists specifically to target younger segments of our audience.”
