RTL pre-buys true crime

Germany’s RTL has pre-bought an upcoming factual series about some of the most dangerous murderers in the world from distributor Keshet International.

World’s Most Evil Killers will air in German-speaking Europe on RTL under the multi-year deal for the show, which is produced by UK prodco Woodcut Media.

The 20-episode series will also air on Sky UK’s free-to-air channel Pick later this year. It was originally sold to Pick as two separate series: Britain’s Most Evil Killers (12×60′) and World’s Most Evil Killers (8×60′).

“Real crime is an important programme genre for RTL Group,” said Agnes Ostrop, head of special projects at RTL.

The show examines some of the most dangerous and prolific murderers in the UK and worldwide, uncovering what drove the perpetrators to commit such crimes.

The series focuses on notorious killers such as Fred and Rose West, Peter Sutcliffe, Ed Gein, Jeffrey Dahmer, Fritz Honka and many more who made the headlines.

“World’s Most Evil Killers not only capitalises on demand for true crime but also gives viewers the opportunity to look deeper into the motivations behind these notorious crimes and learn about the psychology that underpins each criminal’s actions,” said Nelly Feld, head of sales and business development for Europe at Keshet International.
