RTÉ names deputy content boss

Irish public broadcaster RTÉ has appointed a deputy director of content and a group head of entertainment and music.

Niamh O’Connor has been named deputy director of content at RTÉ, having been head of factual at the broadcaster since 2009, and will take up the role next month.

Reporting to director of content Jim Jennings, O’Connor will work with RTÉ’s various genre departments to commission and oversee the development and delivery of programmes, both in-house and third party, across RTÉ radio, television and online.

Meanwhile, John McHugh has been appointed group head of entertainment and music, and begins the role this week. McHugh, a former head of entertainment at UK terrestrial Channel 4, was CEO of Irish indie Tyrone Productions between 2007 and 2012.

RTÉ made Colm O’Callaghan, head of Irish-language programmes, education and science, its interim head of children’s content following the departure of Sheila de Courcy after over 30 years with the pubcaster at the end of 2017.
