Paramount to form First Wives Club

Paramount Network in the US is moving ahead with its TV version of comedy movie First Wives Club from Paramount Television.

The First Wives Club movie starred Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler

The 10×30’ series is penned by Girls Trip scribe Tracy Oliver and is based on the 1996 film starring Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn.

Set in New York, the comedy follows a group of women who club together for support and revenge after their marriages deteriorate.

Oliver will also serve as exec producer on the series, which is set to debut on Viacom-owned Paramount Network in 2019. Karen Rosenfelt (Twilight, The Devil Wears Prada), Scott Rudin, producer of the original film, and Jax Media’s Tony Hernandez will also exec produce.

Brad Gardner, senior VP, development and original programming at Paramount Network and TV Land, will oversee production for the network.

Development of the series was announced last year when Viacom was in the process of rebranding its cablenet Spike as Paramount.
