Paramount set to join First Wives Club

Forthcoming US channel Paramount Network is developing a series based on the 1996 film First Wives Club alongside the scribe behind Girls Trip.

Tracy Oliver

The network, which will replace fellow Viacom-owned channel Spike TV on January 18, is working with Paramount Television and Tracy Oliver on the half-hour series.

Like the film, it will be based in New York City and follow a group of women who band together after their marriages fall apart. The original starred Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn and was released by Paramount Pictures.

Oliver recently co-wrote the screenplay for the film Girls Trip, which made her the first African-American woman to write a movie that grossed more than US$100m domestically.

Her television credits include Dan Fogelman’s ABC comedy The Neighbors and, most recently, Starz drama series Survivor’s Remorse, on which she wrote for multiple seasons.

In the digital space, she is also known for writing, producing and acting in the comedic webseries The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.

Karen Rosenfelt, whose credits include Twilight and The Devil Wears Prada, will executive produce. Dana Tuinier, VP of development and original programming at Paramount Network and TV Land, will serve as the executive in charge of production and will oversee the project for the network.

Viacom recently revealed a line-up of scripted series that will debut on Paramount Network next year, including a six-part drama about the real-life Waco siege that left 76 people dead.
