Nick’s Wayne welcomed to TV

Nickelodeon in the US has ordered a 20-episode series based on its shortform property Welcome to The Wayne, which was made available exclusively online last year.

Welcome to The Wayne launched as shorts on Nick’s app and website

The show launched as a series of shorts for the Nick App and Nick’s website and follows the adventures of two 10-year-old boys exploring the unpredictable world of their New York City apartment building, The Wayne.

It marks the first time one of Nickelodeon’s digital shortform series has been greenlit for television.

Along with the TV series, scheduled to debut in 2016, Nickelodeon will also create a companion app based on the show, which was created and written by writer and composer Billy Lopez (Phineas & Ferb).

“We’re reinventing genres and formats for kids, and greenlighting this series for television signals how content on all screens is coming together as one for our audience, and how we continue to cultivate creative talent like Billy Lopez,” said Russell Hicks, president, content development and production at Nickelodeon.

In related news, Nickelodeon has acquired four series, seven TV movies and two music video specials starring the actresses Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen.

The package of programming, produced by Dualstar Entertainment Group between 1994 and 2003, will begin airing on Nickelodeon in the US this Monday, with episodes airing every weekday.

It includes the animated series Mary-Kate and Ashley in Action!, as well as the series The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley.
