Netflix back for more Peaky Blinders

Netflix in the US has picked up more episodes of period gangster drama Peaky Blinders, which was recently renewed for a third season by pubcaster BBC2 in the UK.

The British drama, the second season of which climaxed on BBC2 this month, is written by Steven Knight and produced by Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Productions.

Set in Birmingham in the 1920s, it follows a family of gangsters as they expand their empire across the country in the aftermath of World War One and stars Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory and Tom Hardy.

Netflix made the first season available to its US subscribers in September, while its second season is due to launch this month. Netflix will air the third season after it debuts in the UK. No air date has yet been set.

The series is distributed internationally by Endemol Worldwide Distribution, while The Weinstein Company holds TV rights in the US.

It was commissioned by Kim Shillinglaw, controller, BBC2 and Ben Stephenson, controller, BBC drama commissioning.
