Cold Courage is the latest original from MTG Studios for Viaplay and is being distributed internationally by Global Road Entertainment, which is also shopping MTG’s first feature film, Superswede.

Written by Hinterland’s David Joss Buckley, the series will stream on Viaplay in 2019 and focuses on two Finnish women in London who are drawn together by a clandestine group dedicated to bringing justice to those beyond the law.

The series is produced by Markku Flink at Luminoir in Finland, with Belgian prodco A Private View, Vico Films in Ireland and Sagafilm in Iceland as coproducers.

Jakob Mejlhede Andersen, MTG’s exec VP and head of programming and content development, said: “This is one of MTG’s most ambitious originals so far. Cold Courage is a complex and multi-layered universe brought to life by an incredible line-up of international talent and is set to be one of 2019’s hottest dramas.”

This week Mejlhede Andersen told C21 here in Cannes that MTG would press ahead with its original drama commissioning despite plans to split the business in two.

MTG’s originals are increasingly reaching global audiences. During 2017, Veni Vidi Vici premiered on US streaming service Hulu, Swedish Dicks aired on US cablenet Pop TV and Black Lake was picked up by BBC4 and AMC Networks-backed horror streamer Shudder.
