MipLab opens for business

MipTV organiser Reed Midem has opened the fifth edition of the MipLab competition for video technology innovation and is seeking entries before the deadline of March 2, 2015.

Five MipLab finalists will battle it out in a public pitch session before an international jury during the annual MipTV content market next year, which runs from April 13 to 16 in Cannes.

Reed Midem is now inviting submissions from companies working on products that will enable the traditional TV and online video industries to better exploit opportunities in the digital space. The finalists will be announced in mid-March on MipTV’s website.

Previously known as MipCube Lab, this year’s competition received 69 applications from more than 20 countries, including France, South Korea, the USA, the UK, Swaziland and Chile.

The winner, French start-up TVTY, subsequently raised US$4.5m from a consortium of investors, while another 2014 finalist, London-based Grabyo, raised US$2m from sports stars including footballers Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie.
