Mediaset stands up to Televisa format

Mediaset España has acquired rights to a new music talent format that puts parent-and-child viral video singing success stories on television.

Stand Up for Your Country (aka Stand Up) comes from Mexican distributor Televisa Internacional and was selected by judges as among the 20 most innovative formats at Mipcom earlier this month.

Mediaset in Spain is now moving ahead with its own version of the La Competencia/Televisa production for its commercial net Teleinco and has started the casting process.

Stand Up promises to make TV stars of parents and children who have made videos of themselves singing together and posted them on the internet. The show’s self-professed “unique” voting mechanic sees a studio audience select which acts proceed through the competition by the extent of their standing ovation. A panel of judges also has its say.
