ITV’s Queen reigns over HBO

Queen Elizabeth II took to the throne in 1952

Premium US cablenet HBO has picked up an ITV documentary that offers unique insight into Queen Elizabeth II.

The landmark 2×60′ doc, commissioned by ITV last month and produced by Oxford Films, will launch on HBO on October 1 at 20.00 (ET/PT).

Filmed over more than a year with privileged access to the Queen, her family and her staff, the show explores the monarch’s role as a figure on the global stage and the baton she is passing to the younger members of the royal family as they continue to build the Commonwealth connection.

The series features behind-the-scenes moments with the Queen and other members of the royal family, including the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Princess Royal and the Countess of Wessex.

International rights to the series will be distributed by London-based production funding agency and distributor Drive, it was revealed today.

The company, founded by Lilla Hurst and Ben Barrett, is working with Oxford Films to secure international pre-sales and will launch the project at Mipcom in Cannes next month.

Oxford is also behind fellow royalty-focused documentaries Our Queen at 90 and Diana, Our Mother: Her Life & Legacy.
