HBO Family catches mermaid series

HBO Family in Asia has picked up a number of live-action series for teens and tweens from German distributor ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE) for South-East Asia, India and China.

The pay TV broadcaster will air Mako Mermaids and seasons one and two of Wolfblood (26×26′) in the region, having struck a deal with the kids’ content arm of the German distributor.

ZDFE.junior partnered with former Imira Entertainment exec Christophe Goldberger’s Barcelona-based distribution and development consultancy firm Goldbee to secure a number of other sales ahead of Asia TV Forum 2014.

In Thailand, state-owned broadcaster MCOT has picked up 195 episodes from the German distributor’s catalogue. The package is made up of H20: Just Add Water (78×26′), Dance Academy (65×26′) and The Elephant Princess (52×26′).

Elsewhere, MediaPrima in Malaysia has taken the first two seasons of H20: Just Add Water (52×26′), while in Singapore, Okto has acquired the free TV rights to animated comedy Rusty Knight (52×13′) and live-action adventure comedy Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures (26×26′).

Finally, preschool toon Q Pootle5 (52×12′), which airs in the UK on CBeebies and has been sold into more than 70 countries worldwide, has been picked up in Taiwan by PTS.
