Globomedia, Écija start scripted prodco

One of the co-founders of Spain’s Globomedia has set up a scripted production company with the Mediapro Group-owned Spanish-language producer.

Producer and director Daniel Écija will lead the independent unit within Globomedia having overseen some of its most successful series over the years, including Family Doctor, The Serranos and The Boat.

Écija is keen to attract new talent in production, screenwriting, direction and executive production with the venture, which will work exclusively with Globomedia.

Globomedia has agreed a deal with Écija to make its operational and commercial structure available to the producer for the next five years.

“It is a great satisfaction to be able to evolve with the starting up of this new creation centre while strengthening at the same time my relationship with Globomedia, which has always been my home,” said Écija.

Javier Pons, general director at Globomedia, added: “For Globomedia, working with Écija in this new stage perfectly matches with our strategy of being the home that supports the best content talent.”

Globomedia is currently working on two projects for Spanish broadcasters: El Accidente, a rural thriller that will premiere on Mediaset-owned Telecinco, and Estoy Vivo, a police series for TVE.
