German, Lat Am deals for Gomorrah

MIPCOM: Gomorrah, the gritty crime drama launching here via Germany’s Beta Film, has been picked up by broadcasters in Germany and Latin America.

Sky Germany has licensed the 12×60′ series, as has HBO in Latin America. These deals come soon after HBO took the series for its Scandinavian service.

The show already has Italian networks Sky Cinema and La7 attached as coproducers, alongside production partners Beta, Cattleya and Fandango. Arrow Film, the UK firm that recently placed Beta’s Generation War with BBC2, has the show in the UK while DVD outfit Lumiere has it for the Netherlands.

Based on the non-fiction book by Roberto Saviano, Gomorrah is a fictionalised account of a family embroiled in the Neapolitan mafia. Stefano Sollima, helmer of the Sky Italia series Romanzo Criminale, is artistic director and directed six episodes.

Award-winning directors Claudio Cupellini (A Quiet Life) and Francesca Comencini (The White Space) directed the remaining episodes. The series is being shot on location over 30 weeks in Naples, Rome, Milan, Ferrara, Ventimiglia and Barcelona.
