Discovery Kids partners Oscar winner

MIPCOM: Latin American children’s broadcaster Discovery Kids is developing three animated series with Oscar-winning director Juan Jose Campanella’s studio.

Floribella, Baby Rockers and Underdogs, details of which were revealed by C21 earlier this year, will all air exclusively on the preschool network across Latin America.

The three shows are being made with Mundoloco CGI, which was co-founded by Juan Jose Campanella, who won the Academy Award for best foreign-language film in 2010 for The Secret in Their Eyes.

Cris Morena, the Argentinian television and theatre producer, director and music composer and CEO of Cris Morena Group, is also onboard the three projects.

Carolina Lightcap, executive VP and chief content officer of Discovery Latin America/US Hispanic and global lead for Discovery Kids and Family, is here in Cannes with the two directors.

Floribella is an animated series based on the live-action show Floricienta, which has run for more than 250 episodes on television in Latin America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Discovery Kids said the show, which follows an energetic and curious girl, reinforces the value of being optimistic and the meaning of friendship.

Underdogs, meanwhile, is inspired by the hit theatrical film of the same name that follows a boy whose table football team magically comes to life.

Baby Rockers follows a multi-cultural band of babies who love to rock, with each member representing different urban tribes from all over the globe.
